Terror in the Corn

It's Thursday, and you know what that means! It's Meet the Character Thursday! Every Thursday we will be profiling a different resident of Raven's Gulch. Today, we profile Zelda!

Zelda is a poor, unfortunate soul. Stricken with Polio as a young girl, she grew up in a state of near-constant pain and suffering. Her parents did what they could for her, but medicine was nowhere near advanced enough in the late 1800's to do much more than give her morphine and opium for the pain and a set of metal braces for her legs so she could at least move around somewhat on her own.

When she was only 13, Zelda lost her parents in a farming accident and along with them, any sense of hope for the future. She was moved to the local orphanage in Raven's Gulch where she lived until she was old enough to be put out on the streets to fend for herself. And fend she did. Zelda performed any odd jobs she could physically manage, given her advanced Polio, but also resorted to begging and other less savory means to make enough money to survive.

Many times, Zelda questioned her very existence. It was during one of these spiritual low points that she first encountered Mildred Wells. Mildred saw something inside of Zelda that reminded her of herself as a young girl. She took pity on young Zelda and invited her inside the Wells Hotel for some company. Zelda the young crippled girl entered the hotel that night, but a few nights later the thing that emerged from the hotel was something...else. Otherworldly. Sinister.

Since that night, Zelda has been seen almost every night roaming 2nd street. She still walks with her leg braces. She remains in considerable pain. But Zelda no longer is stricken with spiritual low points. She no longer questions her existence. For Zelda now has a purpose, one given to her by Mildred Wells herself…
